Last week, my son looked me straight in the eye and said .. “Mom, I don’t agree with that.” Years ago, I would’ve ended the conversation by saying, “No arguments.” Instead, I asked, “Okay… tell me why ?” He explained his point calmly, confidently and respectfully. And the funny part was that he actually made a valid argument. I told him he was right. It made me realize something. Somewhere along the way, we stopped trying to raise children who simply obey. We started raising children who think. Who ask questions. Who challenge ideas. Who aren’t afraid to disagree.. even with us! Is it always easy? Not at all!! Sometimes it’s exhausting.
